Italian Cuisine World Summit :: Dubai

Nov. 12-15

This is the story of Agata and Romeo, the couple who, together, created the restaurant that carries their name. The real story begins in 1890 when the family of Agata opened their simple osteria which served “porchetta.”

Romeo Caraccio Sannita of San Giorgio La Molara had reached his fourth year of study in Medicine when he met Agata, the daughter of a restaurant owner in the capital, married her and joined the family business. In time, the simple "Osteria" became the fine restaurant that it is now with simple and stylish décor, fine ceramics (and Agata’s collection of teapots) and beautiful crystal, award-winning cuisine.

Agata’s natural talent was complemented by the experience she gained being in contact with both Italian and French chefs.  Now their restaurant is among the best in Rome and classified in the top one hundred in Italy. Romeo pays special attention to service and wines for which he has special knowledge, as he has been a member of the Association of Italian Sommeliers since 1984 when he attended all the courses necessary to become one of Italy’s first ever Professional Sommeliers. His own cantina was awarded best wine cellar in Italy for two consecutive years in 1999 and 2000,  "L' Espresso" guide.

He was also awarded the prestigious " The Best of Award of Excellence" by Wine Spectator for two consecutive years in 2000 and 2001 as among the best restaurants in the world for wine lovers.

Romeo and his wife Agata belong to a small group of chefs who are called on to cook at Palazzo Chigi, at Villa Madama and Villa Doria Pamphili at official government receptions and for various foreign heads of State.

The restaurant is a member of the "Jeunes Restaurateurs d'Europe."  Having earned a Michelin star 14 years ago, they are now one of the important “stops” that bring together only the world’s best restaurants.

Agata e Romeo are often called upon to present their cuisine abroad and have done so in Los Angeles, Hong Kong, New York, Bern, Geneva, Tokyo, Kyoto, Yroshima , Melbourne, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro , etc.
